Roasting and toasting
Both candidates took time off the campaign trail last night and attended the Alfred E Smith charity dinner hosted by the Archdiocese of NY. The candidates faced off again, poking fun at each other to the great delight of the audience in attendance. For once, Michelle Obama was not the center of attention. The white tie and tails affair gave Romney the opportunity to show his humorous side, the guy can deliver a line and has great timing. He poked fun at himself and the idea he is a stiff man with no sense of humor. WaPo reported on the roast;
“A campaign can require a lot of wardrobe changes — blue jeans in the morning,
perhaps, suits for a lunch fundraiser, sport coat for dinner — but it’s nice to
finally relax and wear what Ann and I wear around the house,” Romney said.
I really don’t think the audience was ready to enjoy Romney as much as they did. There was applause and laughter throughout his whole speech, mostly roasting Obama and taking a shot at the media.
“Of course, we’re down to the final months of the president’s term. As President Obama surveys the Waldorf banquet room with everybody in white tie and finery you have to wonder what he’s thinking: ‘So little time, so much to redistribute.’”
Romney added that he and Obama are both “very lucky to have one person who’s always in our corner, someone who we can lean on and someone who is a comforting presence without whom we wouldn’t be able to go another day. I have my beautiful wife, Ann; he has Bill Clinton.”
And Romney took a shot at the press, joking that he had “already seen early reports from tonight’s dinner. Headline: ‘Obama Embraced by Catholics, Romney Dines with Rich People.’”
Romney looked like he was having more fun then Obama. He was much wittier than Obama and definitely more relaxed. Follow up panel on Hannity was great. Even the leftist Leslie Marshall thought Romney was better than BO. How about that? http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/hannity/index.html#/v/1910835049001/candidates-have-fun-at-each-others-expense/?playlist_id=86924
and from Breitbart, video at the link. Truly enjoyable and funny!!
For all that “war on women” talk coming out as a Dem talking point, there is one Dem who thinks women should stop “whining” about their life choices. She also stated there should be more “flexibility” in the workplace for women with children or aged parents to care for. Oh my, she agrees with Romney on that issue.
“I can’t stand whining,” Clinton told Marie Claire. “I can’t stand the kind of paralysis that some people fall into because they’re not happy with the choices they’ve made. You live in a time when there are endless choices. … Money certainly helps, and having that kind of financial privilege goes a long way, but you don’t even have to have money for it. But you have to work on yourself. … Do something!”
The “single issue” feminists should take note, women are not just their “lady parts”. We have come a long way baby and we are not as stupid as you believe. We are a multifaceted bunch and don’t scare easily. We work, raise our children (some have raised their grandchildren), take responsibility for ouselves, and we don’t whine about it. We do what we have to do. We are better than what you perceive us to be.
Pigs are flying! Bob Beckel finally admitted what the rest of us are keenly aware of in the political arena. Obama is struggling to keep up and Mitt Romney is surging in the polls. He was much more subdued on “The Five” Thursday as he made this pronouncement;
“If I were looking at the numbers and managing the presidential campaign, I would be upset, I’m not sure panic. But if those numbers are correct — it is over, it is over,” said Beckel, a co-host of Fox News’s “The Five.” “So I mean you’re not going to bring Romney back under 50 percent from 52 percent, not a challenger candidate. If that is correct. I don’t necessarily buy it’s correct.”
The left told us to “sit down and shut up”, we didn’t. The left called us names like “racist” and “Nazi”, we still stood our ground. The left tried every intimidation tactic they could come up with, it didn’t work. We refuse to regress to the 70s and want our country to make progress. We know the only way to accomplish that is by electing a President who will move us toward progress. The Romney/Ryan team is exactly what this country needs at this time, not a rock star Preezy who isn’t engaged or suited for the position. We’re more then a little fed up with “class warfare”, “race based politics” and a divisive President who didn’t fulfill his promise to us all.
