Superglued to stupid
The foreclosure abuse settlement that was intended to speed relief to homeowners is ending as it began: with controversy and complaints that the program isn’t working.
On Tuesday, some of the first people to receive payouts under the $9.2 billion deal between federal regulators and the mortgage industry called into a government hotline to report that their bank would not cash their check, the Federal Reserve announced in a press release. Though the unspecified problem was resolved, the Federal Reserve noted, the episode is likely to further erode confidence in a program that has failed to deliver on almost every promise made by federal regulators. …
Earlier this month, the Government Accountability Office issued a scathing report on the review process, finding that regulators did not provide proper oversight and that some errors likely went undetected. Regulators also recently released new information suggesting that banks may have made errors in as many as 30 percent of all loans that qualified for a review, a figure far higher than previously reported.
Of course the ‘blame game’ has begun. No one knows who planted bombs in Boston. But, that doesn’t deter the media.
Barrett, who is now senior director at the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies (QIASS), said: “At the moment it looks more likely that it was a right-wing terrorist incident, rather than an al Qaeda attack because of the size of the devices.”
He added: “This happened on Patriots’ Day, it is also the day Americans are supposed to have their taxes in, and Boston is quite a symbolic city. These are all little indicators.”
Lawrence O’Donnell has a different take;
“There are new developments in the bombing investigation here in Boston, but that investigation could be moving faster were it not for the successful lobbying efforts of the National Rifle Association,” O’Donnell said at the top of his 10 p.m. program.
“The NRA’s effort to guarantee that America’s mass murderers are the best equipped mass murderers in the world is not limited to those who use automatic weapons and high capacity magazines. The NRA is also in the business of helping bombers get away with their crimes,”
Anyone who trusts the media to get it right has a lot to learn about the Fourth Estate. The Arrest that Never Was.
Max Baucus is not happy with HHS Sebelius….he’s not the only one. It’s been a “trainwreck” since it’s inception.
“I’m very concerned that not enough is being done so far–very concerned,” said Baucus. “Small businesses have no idea what to do, what to expect.”
Baucus appeared frustrated with Sebelius’s unresponsiveness in supplying the senator with information designed to educate and assist citizens with understanding the massively complex healthcare overhaul.
“You need data,” Baucus said to Sebelius. “Do you have any data? You’ve never given me data. You only give me concepts, frankly.”
